Southern Colorado Based Photographer Celebrating Family
How do you run a successful business, keep up with seven children, serve in your church and community and still have a smile on your face? Ask Randy and Micah Jackson!!! They are the parents of six girls and one boy and the owners of Rustic Log Furniture, a family-owned company based in Alamosa, Colorado. Rustic Log was started when Randy made yard swings for Mother’s Day. From there the business took off, using a shed in the backyard as a workshop, and has grown into a full line of log furniture and mountain home decor accessories sold nationwide. Yes, they have a lot on their plate!!
I didn’t ask Randy and Micah their secret to a balanced life, or how to stay sane during such a busy time in their lives, but I think I may know what they would they would say. I saw throughout their session and can see it in their business what really matters to them, relationships!!! Relationships with each child, with each customer and with each other. When you put people first, everyone wins! And when you put the most important people in your life first, then life has a way of working out.
For all you mom’s out there, don’t get me wrong. I don’t mean that every minute of every day needs to be spent on your family, even if you do not work outside the home! No martyr moms here!!! In fact, I think that the best thing we can do for our families is to spend time on self development. That may mean pursuing education, mastering a skill, having a side hustle, starting a hobby, you get the idea. If we are becoming our best selves, then we will have that best self to give to our family. Balance comes, as I am sure the Jackson’s can tell you, when we are doing the right things for the right reasons. When what you do and who you are becoming blesses your life, your family, and others around you, then you know you are on the right track, (even if your kids may have to eat Ramon once in awhile 🙂 ).
Thank you, Jackson family, for showing us how to keep smiling, keep priorities straight, and keep working hard. You are an amazing example of why FAMILIES ARE THE BEST!!!

Thank you Cassie! You did a great job capturing our crazy bunch. I also appreciate your comments about us. I guarantee that we do not have balance all figured out; some days we feel like we are attempting cartwheels on a beam above a shark tank, but with faith and perservence we’ve made it through thus far. Families are so important!
