Megan & Braxton Engagement Session

Me:  When does your daughter and her fiance get into town?

Mother of the Bride:  Thursday night

Me:  How about a morning session on Friday?

Mother of the Bride:  Sure, how early would you need to start?

Me:  5:30am if we want to catch the sunrise.  Do you think they will be okay with that?

Mother of the Bride:  They’re college students, they can handle it.

And they did handle it, and they handled it well!  In fact, they showed up to the session early, bright-eyed and excited!!  When I apologized for cutting into their precious sleep, they shrugged it off.  When I complained about the chill in the air, they said it felt good to them, since it has been so hot in Utah.  When I asked them to sit on the hard, uneven ground, or change outfits in a tiny, questionable “outdoor cubicle”, they were okay with that too.  Always happy, always positive and always concerned for each others comfort and needs.

I have a feeling these two are not going to fight about which movie to watch on a Saturday night, or who’s turn it is to take out the trash, or which family to spend Christmas with.  (OK, maybe that one.  Doesn’t every couple fight about that?)  No, I think they have already figured out what many couples take a lifetime to learn.  As Olaf said in the movie Frozen, “Love is…putting someone else’s needs before yours.”   What a smart little snowman!

Megan and Braxton, thank you for your willingness to do whatever crazy thing I asked you to do.  Thank you for watching the sunrise with me and starting my day out so beautifully because I got to start it with you.  And thank you for showing me and the rest of the world what real love is.  For you two, I hope that September 14th comes quickly because as another movie character put it, “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”
