“Once you have wrestled, everything else in life is easy.” I don’t know who to attribute this quote to, but I do know that there is much truth to it. My own son wrestled, so I have seen my fair share of this heart-wrenching, nerve-wracking sport, that I have actually come to love. Why? Because it teaches young boys things that many grown men have not yet learned. It teaches them that if they want to win, they will have to work harder than the other guy and if they lose, they alone are to blame. Wrestling teaches that determination and grit are more important than natural talent. It teaches that there is no “tapping out” when you have had enough. The only way out of the match is to win or lose. It also teaches that, no matter how far behind you are, it is never too late to win. Above all, it teaches these athletes of all athletes that they can achieve anything they set their mind to and work hard for. That is why wrestling makes everything else in life easy.
Brady Kuhns is a senior at Sanford High School and wrestles for Sierra Grande. He has wrestled for many years and knows well how tough the sport is, but it is apparent that the sport has made him tough as well. (Anyone that can smile in five degree weather in a short sleeve shirt, while standing in snow well over his shoes, has to be tough!!) Brady sees himself becoming a math teacher because he loves numbers and working with kids, but is leaving the door open for a career as a pilot also. Whatever he decides to do, I’m sure he will depend on the life lessons he learned as a wrestler, and go on to achieve great things!!!
Thank you Brady, for standing in that snow, with a good attitude, a beautiful smile, and making my job easy. Thank you wrestlers everywhere, for being willing to participate in a sport that may be tough, but makes this world a better place, by teaching old-fashioned values to a new generation. Your the best!!!!
