“Save one life and you’re a hero. Save 100 lives and you’re a nurse.” I can’t even begin to describe the respect I have for the nursing community. Who has not been blessed by the love and sacrifice of one of these angels in comfortable shoes? Nurses dedicate their lives to serving others, and often as a sacrifice to themselves. Short on sleep and energy they complete endless paperwork, deal with cranky patients, (and sometimes cranky doctors), and do less than desirable tasks. Yet, they still find a way to touch the heart of those in need. They really are angels!!!
Emma is a few months and one graduation ceremony away from becoming one of these angels, although she already fits the part well. As long as I have known her, she has been extremely aware of others’ needs and is always there with a kind thought or warm smile. But it takes more than kindness to be a nurse and Emma’s stack of books proves that. I asked her if she had any books she could bring to pose with, but found out that most of her books were e-books. “Well, bring what you have,” I said. She did, and there was plenty!!! Realizing that the large stack of books was only a small portion of what she had learned in the last four years, blew me away!!! No wonder nursing students always look so tired!! 🙂
Thank you, Emma, for your great ideas for this session and for being willing to try my crazy ideas! Thank you for your sweet smile and beautiful countenance!!! Thank you for being willing to give your life to a demanding, selfless profession. You are my hero!!! You have filled your mind with truth, and your heart with love, so you can now go fill your life with service. You will do great things!!!!
